It's been a long weekend and really not in a good way. I am still sick, not as bad, but still sick and quite sick of being sick to be quite honest. The dog is still sick and that is really wearing on me. We thought we had it under control as she has stopped throwing up, and actually ate some food, kept it down and had a normal bowel movement, but now she has horrendous diarrhea (just want you wanted to know, right) so it looks like we will be back at the vet tomorrow. And with us leaving for vaca very soon, it just makes me all the more stressed that we are going to have to leave her sick. Keira did not nap today - everyone knows how much fun that is and I just have a million things to do between now and tuesday, ugh! Ok, enough complaining.
Did we do anything fun this weekend? I can't really think of anything ... I had a great burrito bol at Chipolte and found out that Chipolte will make a kids quesadilla if you ask them even though it's not on the menu - why don't they tell people this??? We would have eaten there so much more often if we would have known they had something for Keira!

Funny Story about being Frugal
So, my mom calls me the other day. She says, Can I ask you something? You know I don't like to pry into your private life or anything (I am thinking, oh my, what on earth is she going to ask me) but I was reading your blog and I just wondered, Are you and Wade ok financially? I instantly start laughing. She continues to say that she was reading that I was trying to give up department store cosmetics and this is why she thought we might be struggling. I said No Mom, we are just fine, I just decided that it might be a little ridiculous that I spend $20 bucks on a tube of lipstick! So, now it's soapbox time. First, friends and family, we are just fine financially. While we will be happy to take any money you would like to send us, we don't need it ;) Just because we don't HAVE to be frugal, doesn't mean we shouldn't be. My personal philosophy is if you can get it for free or cheap, you should! Plus, I like the game of it all - it's sorta a hobby for me - I love to find the best deal and then tell all my friends ;) I guess I feel that we work hard and we should try to keep as much of our money with us as possible - or be able to spend more on things we actually enjoy like travel vs. things we could care less about like shampoo or razors. That is just my philosophy though, to each their own. Off soapbox now!
eta: I told Wade about this but before I told him about the reason she thought this (blog posts), he says "Is it because of all the crazy coupon stuff you do?" Hee Hee. He makes fun, but he loves seeing what I bring home each time I go out!

Reason #716
I have a friend who never wants a pet. So every time I tell her something bad about our dog, she says, that's reason number 352, etc. So Julie, reason #716: they get sick just like kids. Our dog has been throwing up all day. What a fun way to spend a day ... at least I still can't smell anything!

Making Cookies with Mommy
So I am still sick, but just as bad as being sick, totally bored. We haven't been anywhere in days because of this dumb sinus infection and I am going stir crazy. So today we decided to make cookies for lack of anything better to do. You should have seen me - I totally had a hospital mask on so I didn't spread any germs, just in case I'm contagious! Here are some pics ... cookies turned out yummy!

Flower Girl Dress
This is the dress that Keira will get to wear to my brother's wedding. Super cute, eh? I think it will look great with Keira's hair color. Can I tell you that I totally need to find her a place to get her hair done for the weddding - I am terrible with hair! Now, seriously, I need to put down the computer and step away ... this is like my 3rd post today ... step away from the computer!
I've created a monster
So I spilled the beans on vacation to Keira - Yes, I know this is a big mistake. Keira has asked no less than 8 times today, "Mommy, can we go to the airport now?" Yesterday, she wore her swimsuit all afternoon. She is almost as excited as me :)

Taking years off my life
I am the proud mother of a very clumsy child. I keep expecting her to grow out of it, but that has yet to happen. And since I am not the most co-ordinated person on the planet, it may never happen. Over the past 3 days, we have had 2 major incidents that are seriously taking years off my life. On Saturday, Keira decided to use her piano stool to stand on (it is about 6 inches tall, maybe - not very tall) in the kitchen to get something off the counter. It moved while she was standing on it, she fell off and bit her lip, inside and out. There was a decent amount of blood pretty much everywhere, but she was ok. Poor thing had a nice fat lip for several hours though. Then tonight, she hopped off the chair at the dining room table to get something that had fallen to the floor, somehow tripped and hit her head of the ledge of the window. Instant, massive size goose egg. Again, she is ok, will likely have a nice bruise, but still ok. I don't know where to enroll this child in sports or dance so she can learn some coordination or keep her as far away from those things as possible!
40% off at Old Navy
I purchased a pair of jeans at Old Navy today and they gave me a coupon for 40% off any single item from the 20th to the 22nd. Yippee!
I didn't get to the Wags and CVS deals yesterday - I looked through the ads and didn't find anything super, so we'll wait and see what comes next week. If I find anything great, I'll post it.

Game on!
So we leave for vacation in 10 days and I have 3 pounds to lose to reach my goal. I really want to be at my goal before vaca ... mostly because I know I will gain a few pounds on vacation. We are staying at an all inclusive and I gotta take advantage of the tropical beverages, right?!? So it will be work out central for the next few days. Fun.
We took Keira to chuck e cheese's this weekend. This was our inaugural visit and I have to say that it wasn't as terrible as I thought. It was much much cleaner (or at least it looked cleaner) than I expected. We went right when they opened (did you know they opened at 9:00 AM??) and were the only people there for about 45 minutes. That was really nice. Keira had lots of fun and we only spent $10 for 125 tokens (I had a coupon) - way more than we could use in the time we were there, so we have some left for a return trip.
Guess that is all I've got, I will try to post some deals from the ads tomorrow. And why do they never put coupons in the holiday inserts? I hate that!

MIA Lately
Sorry I haven't been posting much lately. We have been having awesome weather and been spending lots of time outside. It has been in the high 60's and even hit 70 once or twice. Today Keira and I were outside working in what should become the garden this spring ... with NO shoes on, that is how warm it was today. Sadly, it looks like this is coming to an end tomorrow, but we have certainly enjoyed it while it lasted, I mean how many times does it hit 70 in Feb?

Soup for Charity
We all know how bad the economy is and many many families are really feeling it. Food pantries are really in dire need now because not only is need up, but donations are down. I have a great way to help this week without spending a ton of cash. Here's the deal:
Wags has Progresso soup on sale 4 cans for $5.
Go here and print 2 coupons for $1.10 off each. http://bricks.coupons.com/Start.asp?tqnm=qa4feam40829255&bt=vi&o=54716&ci=1&c=GM&p=I45nUFQV
You can only print 2 coupons per computer, so combine with friends to get the best deal ...
Soup - $5.00
Coupons - -$4.40
Total - $0.60
You can only buy 4 cans at a time, so it will take a little bit of work, but so what - it is totally worth it. The sale is only good for a week, so hurry hurry hurry to Walgreens!
Think about this ... if you have 20 people print coupons, you can get 40 cans of soup for only $6.00.

Free 411 Service
Did you know that Google offers 411 service for FREE??? I didn't until today. So instead of having to pay $0.75 every time you need a number, just dial (1-800) GOOG-411. Great for use in the car ... be sure to program your cell phone today! It is an automated service, no person, but so far I haven't had any trouble with it. It is worth a call just to hear how it pronounces Olathe!! Here is more info if you are interested:

Being Frugal
So one of my New Year's Resolutions was to be more frugal. I do really well with being frugal at buying toiletries, pretty good with groceries and eating out, but one of my dirty little secrets is that I use department store cosmetics. It pains me to pay for them every time I buy them, but it is just what I have done for years. So this is one area that I am working on this year. And Walgreens is doing a lot to help me! In the Feb Easysaver there are several great deals.
* Buy any Revlon Age Defying Spa Concealer or Foundation for $10, get $10 back via MIR
-Plus there is a $2.00 off coupon, so they are paying me to try it!
* Buy any Revlon Creme Lip Gloss for $10, get $10 back via MIR
-Also a $2.00 off coupon out there
So I can try out some lip gloss and some foundation for an Overage of $4.00 (really more than that b/c if you have your rebate put on a WAGS gift card, they give you an extra 10% back!)
These are month long deals, so if your store is out, try back before the end of the month. The WAGS in Olathe get their trucks on Thursdays, so Fridays are good days to look.

Great Cereal Deal - Hyvee
A friend sent this to me ...
Hyvee has select Kellog's cereal (rice krispies, frosted flakes, mini wheats, corn flakes, Froot Loops) for 1.69 a box and there was a Sunday coupon awhile back that was 1.50 off 2 boxes (the Kellog's coupon had 2 or 4 on the page)...so 1.88 for 2 boxes... or $.94 each.
I think we'll be making Rice Krispie treats this month. You can also use corn flakes in place of bread crumbs, just crush before using with rolling pin or in a food processor. $0.94 for a whole box of corn flakes is much much cheaper than buying bread crumbs.

Bleck
So, Keira's better, I'm worse, Wade is about the same. I hate being sick. I think I am going to go to the gym tomorrow and try to sweat it out. I feel like my muscles are atrophying* as we speak. But right now, I am going to bed. As soon as I take whatever it is I can find in our house that will allow me to sleep.
*I actually spelled this word right on the first try! I am such a terrible speller, I am shocked!

Obsession
So I have a bit of an obsessive personality. I imagine that former employers have loved this quality about me. My newest obsession is filling my freezer with make ahead meals and snacks. Last week I made 60 some meatballs. Today on a wim I decided to make pancakes and waffles to freeze. This was actually sparked by a bad experience with Eggo's Mini Pancakes. Keira loves these things - they are the healthiest things in the world, but what do you do. Anyway, the last box I bought, about 1/2 of them were smooshed and wouldn't cook right. I e-mailed and complained and never received a response. So, I'll show them I say to myself and I'll make my own. I made Whole Wheat Pancakes and Waffles that are much healthier than the Eggos and much cheaper. Yippee for me. So now I am sitting here trying to figure out what else I can make and freeze. I came across this great new website about Once a Month Cooking. Something I have always wanted to try. This site makes it super easy in terms of grocery lists and instructions. I think I am really going to try it this time. And most of the meals they have in the Feb plan, we all would eat. I probably won't do the lasagna as I have a couple in the freezer already and I am picky about lasagna. I'll probably wait for a few weeks as we just had a meal swap. But check out this website http://onceamonthmom.com/. Look at the Cooking menus section. This is a great resource.

Superbowl Snacks!
So today is cheat day on the diet because I LOVE Superbowl snacks. It is my favorite eating day of the year! There will be no weigh in tomorrow ;) Here's what we had: 7 Layer Dip (I made my own chips, so that it would be somewhat healthier), lil smokies wrapped in crescents, pizza pinwheels, barbeque meatballs, veggie tray, hummus and pita chips (I made my own for the first time and it turned out really good), and for dessert - Monkey Bread. We are all now stuffed and happy!
Ryan's visit was great - Keira enjoyed playing with her Uncle and of course enjoyed the fact that he brought her a sit-n-spin for her birthday. Yet another toy from Uncle Ryan that he will be getting back when he has kids. It plays pretty obnoxious music. I'll post some pictures from the visit later.
It got into the 60s on saturday and while I probably shouldn't have let Keira play outside as the breeze was a little cool (she is sick with a cold, AGAIN), we played outside anyway. It was so nice to feel the sun and she had a great time playing with all her outside toys.
Hope you all had great weekends and are enjoying watching the Superbowl or the Superbowl commercials as is the case for me ;)

Great CVS Deal
I'll post the rest of the deals in the sidebar later, but this one warranted an early post!
Right now L'Oreal cleansers are on sale for $5.99, buy 2 at get $10 ECBs. AND there are coupons for $2 off 1, so use 2 coupons. Here's what I did:
Buy 2: $11.98
Coupons: -$4.00
Total OOP: $7.98
Get $10.00 ECBs
PROFIT: $2.02
And you can do this transaction twice, YIPPEE. I only had 3 - $2 coupons, but I had 1 - $1 coupon, so CVS paid me $3 to buy some products from them. I love it! Get to CVS in a hurry, this one won't last ... but remember, you can get a rain check if they are out of the product.
Attention KC readers ... try a CVS other the one at K7 and Santa Fe, I got the last 4 they had.
